Celebrate Independence Day on Houston Property

July 4th is fast approaching, and Houston property owners can experience the traditional Freedom Over Texas music and fireworks show in a whole new way. This year it seems especially important to come together in a safe way to demonstrate the tenacity, perseverance, and solidarity of all Houstonians.

Everyone living in Houston can tune in to ABC13 to view the three-hour extravaganza. The Houston Symphony will open the event with a program of patriotic music. Pat Green will join the symphony as the headliner of an impressive musical lineup. The singer-songwriter has been nominated for a Grammy three times and is an important force in Texas country music.

Other musical guests include rapper and philanthropist Trae Tha Truth. Hip-hop star Bun B will also perform. One of Houston’s most beloved mariachi bands, Mariachi Imperial de America is on the program. The brother-sister Norteño duo Los Luzeros de Rioverde will give a performance. Ricardo began playing accordion at age four, while his older sister Yaxeni learned to play the accordion at eight.

In addition, to live performances, several well-known local and national artists will be performing virtually. See country star Lyle Lovett, country and gospel singer Josh Turner, and Latin group La Mafia from the comfort of your Houston property.

July 4th wouldn’t be the same without fireworks. New sponsor Reliant will put on an amazing display in downtown Houston. It will be broadcast on ABC13. Cox Media radio stations will simulcast the music, so anyone downtown can see the fireworks live and enjoy the performances.

Help Out People Living in Houston by Donating to the Food Bank

In addition to all the fun, Freedom Over Texas is dedicated to making a positive impact on the community. This year, there will be a “text to give” campaign that will benefit the Houston Food Bank.

No July 4th celebration is complete without a barbecue. This year, why not leave the cooking to the experts and support local businesses? For a more upscale meal, check out Doris Metropolitan. While their dining room is open on a limited, reservation-only basis, they are offering two great takeout options. Dinner for two is $125. Start with one of the appetizers. Choose between Jerusalem salad, tomato salad, or artichoke salad. Then choose two steaks--either New York strip, bone-in ribeye, or porterhouse. The steaks have been cooked sous vide and are ready to finish on your own grill or in a skillet for the most delicious steak you’ve ever had. Finish up with a dessert--malabi rose, brownies, or polenta cake. Dinner for four is $210. You choose two appetizers. In addition to the salads as in the dinner for two, you can also have octopus or beetroot salad. Choose three steaks from the same options as above. You also get your choice of two desserts.

The dining room is open Tuesday through Sunday from 5 to 10 p.m. Curbside pick up and delivery are available Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

Bring a Taste of Germany and Bavaria to Your Houston Property

If you’re in need of a more budget-friendly option for the July 4th party at your Houston property, check out King’s BierHaus in the Heights. They have worked hard to completely revamp their menu. They’ve kept the German-Austrian-American fusion concept. The major change is to make it both more affordable and with better options for take-out.

Who wouldn’t love a slice or two of Oma’s Meatloaf? It’s served with mashed potatoes, and broccoli, and topped with German gravy. Try the Taste of Germany platter for a variety of sausage, barbecued meat, potato salad, and sauerkraut, pretzel sticks, and more. If you’d like a little heat, try the Tex-Mex Schnitzel, with street corn, barbacoa, guacamole, pickled jalapeños, cotija cheese, and chipotle aioli, and cilantro. There’s a whole new lineup of King’s smoked wings. Flavors include buffalo, sweet chili, bier-bbq, and garlic parmesan. You can also choose one of the delicious hot dogs, piled high with toppings. The Exotic hot dog is a Mountain Man wurst, served on a soft pretzel bun, with cheddar-bacon bier sauce, smoked pulled pork, pickled onions, a pickle, and barbecue sauce.

People living in Houston can also visit King’s BierHaus for special events, like Saturday brunch. It’s served every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Start with a charcuterie board or an order of King’s smoked wings. For the main course, you can’t go wrong with one of the sandwiches. The breakfast pretzel grilled cheese is also served with tomato basil soup. Recover from a night on the town with a hangover sandwich. There are classic brunch offerings, too, like steak and eggs. Try a King’s BeirHaus signature dish and have a Bavarian omelet. It’s a plate of eggs, bratwurst, kasewurst, bacon, cheddar, homemade salsa, peppers, and onion. It comes with breakfast potatoes on the side.

Finish either takeout or eat in order with one of the house German beers. You can bring in a growler to have it refilled and enjoy it at home. The cocktails are fantastic. Cool off and relax with the Frosé--vodka, strawberries, and rosé.
