Whether you’re searching for Houston real estate or already own a Houston home, why not take a break from the daily grind and visit the Houston Zoo? The zoo is open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visitors will find creatures from around the world. Head to the African Forest exhibit to see giraffes, gorillas, rhinos, and chimpanzees. There are more than 200 species of birds, on of the largest collections of any zoo in the United States. Three main exhibits include the Tropical Bird House, the Fischer Bird Gardens, and Birds of the World. Get an up-close look as the birds fly around the Tropical Bird House. See the green-winged macaw, Saint Vincent’s Amazon parrot, and graceful flamingos. The Kipp Aquarium houses water species from Africa, the Pacific Ocean, and the Amazon Basin. Kids and the young at heart will enjoy the McGovern Children’s Zoo, which features many species native to Texas. This is a great spot to gain a better appreciation of animals you might even encounter on Houston real estate.

Every day has special opportunities for keeper talks, where visitors get an in-depth understanding of specific species, as well as feeding times, where you can watch the animals eat. These also serve to help visitors gain a greater appreciation for the magnificent animals that live at the zoo. The zoo also provides many educational opportunities. Children ages 18 months to 5 years can participate in Zoo Sprouts. These hour-long classes allow kids and their caretakers to experience hands-on activities with zookeepers. Summer is a great time for Zoo Camp. Kids ages 4 to 16 are invited to sign up for a week of animal exploration and time helping keepers care for the animals. Zoo Overnights are another great chance for families to get up-close experiences with zoo animals on special guided hikes, and older kids can get a behind-the-scenes look at how the keepers work with the animals.
