Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker ballet has become one of the traditional holiday performances, and the Houston Ballet is staging it now through December 29th! Join Clara as she journeys with her Nutcracker through the Kingdom of Sweets. There are performances on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with additional shows in the last two weeks of December. For an extra special experience, consider VIP tickets. These include snacks both before the show and at intermission, as well as a chance to meet the dancers once the performance is over. People of all ages living in Houston homes will be delighted by Zoo Lights at the Houston Zoo. The event is currently running and will go through January 13th. The paths around the zoo have been decorated with thousands of lovely Christmas lights, creating a holiday wonderland. If you’re feeling hungry when you arrive, make an order at the BBQ Food Truck. You can also find hot cocoa or roast s’mores. On select nights, you can meet Santa and take a professional photo with him. Enjoy Holiday Events Near Houston Homes into January
If you don’t mind a bit of a drive, head out to the Glade Arts Foundation Enchanted Forest in The Woodlands. People of all ages and abilities are welcome at the indoor/outdoor installation and performance. Experience the magic of the season in a story about love and friendship, told through lights, dance, and acrobatics. The Enchanted Forest will run through January 6th. Tickets are still available for most days, but if you have particular weekend times in mind, get your tickets quickly. Check the calendar to find out about sensory-friendly performances, where the sound and lights are turned down, and extra helpers will be on hand.
Back on Houston real estate, city council member Dwight A. Boykins is hosting the 5th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting & Kwanzaa Celebration. The event will take place on December 8th from 4 to 8 p.m. It will be on Alameda Road, between Southmore and Calumet. After the tree is lit, there will be fireworks, too! In addition, come for live music by New Cupid and Brian Jack & the Zydeco Gamblers, a fashion show, and great food. Children will have a blast at the Kids Zone, with ice skating, face painting, a rock climbing wall, and train rides. Santa will be there, too, and available for photos. Music lovers looking for a great way to ring in the New Year should check out An Evening of Jazz. The concert will be on Sunday, December 30th at 5 p.m. at the Wortham Center/Cullen Theater. Come hear some of Houston’s current best jazz musicians--Vel Lewis, Paula Atherton, and the Braxton Brothers, and Walter Beasley.
